Zeta's Log Tuesday 02/10/12Today in life drawing we began adding tone to our sketches. We focused on mid and dark tones on our first couple of drawings. On our final drawing we covered the entire page in mid tone charcoal before using erasers and compressed charcoal to produce the light and dark tones in order to create a sketch. I think it came out rather well but I need to work on a larger scale.

This afternoon we visited another gallery where a watercolourist was being displayed as well as some art portrayed through video. I have to say it wasn't the greatest as there wasn't much to it.

Zeta's Log Monday 01/10/12Today in class we tried out different ways of applying and blending acrylic paint. We got a large piece of card and tried the following techniques:

:bulletblack: Altering the thickness of the paint
:bulletblack: Blending (using a relatively dry brush)
:bulletblack: Glazing (spreading a thin layer of white paint over the coloured paint to change the lightness.
:bulletblack: Scumbling (similar to glazing except the layer of paint applied to the first layer of paint is opaque. It changes the hue of the paint first applied.

We also learnt about colour wheels.

Zeta's Log Wednesday 26/09/12Today in class we started adding either slip or glaze to our pots. Decorating slip is liquid clay mixed with colour oxides. Slip is applied to dry clay before it is biscuit fired (greenware) whilst glaze is applied after biscuit firing (biscuitware). There are various techniques to apply slip or glaze to pottery.

1. Fill a measuring jug with glaze or slip and pour it into the pot to cover the inside.

2. Dip the pot into the slip or glaze to cover the outside.

3. Place the pot on two parallel slats of wood over the bucket of slip/glaze and pour the slip/glaze over it using a measuring jug.

So, ask-reala has been wondering how nightmarens would react to escalators. And here is the answer.

Poor Puffy got kinda stuck. I have no idea how she got on the escalator in the first place let alone making it to the top. Jackle seems to find it quite amusing though.

NiGHTS decided to go investigate an escalator but he made just one teensy mistake. He went during the day and frightened the other shoppers. NiGHTS, humans don't fly and of course they are gonna look at you like you're an alien. Poor Mrs Peterson.
